When Logging In to Essential Magic or editing your Essential Magic Profile, you are given the option of allowing Essential Magic to automatically remember you from now on. Checking this option will make it so you don't have to log in every time you visit our site. However, there are some security risks that you should be aware of before checking this option.
- Do Other People Use This Computer?
When you allow Essential Magic to remember your username and password, we don't actually remember you. We remember your computer. If someone else comes to our site from the same computer, we will think that they are you. So, if you are using a shared computer (in a school, library, Internet cafe, or other public area), or if you are using someone else's computer, you should not check this option. - Remember Your Username and Password
Just because we're offering to remember your username and password doesn't mean that you don't have to. There are several things that could cause our cookie to be deleted, which would make you have to log in agan. For that reason, you should write down your username and password in a safe place. However, if you do forget your username or password you can Click Here to have them e-mailed to you. - You Can Change Your Mind Later
If you ever decide later that you want to change this option, you can always go to your Essential Magic Profile and change it. - How We Remember You
When you check the option for us to "remember" you from now on, we store a cookie on your computer. A cookie is nothing more than a small text file that we put on your hard drive. In it, we put a unique key that we use to remember you by. Then, each time you log on, we read the unique key from the cookie to determine who you are. - A Word About Cookies
We are not the only website that uses cookies. In fact, virtually every website you go to puts at least one cookie on your computer. But, there is no reason to worry that your personal information or browsing habits are being monitored, because each website is only allowed to access its own cookies. Essential Magic can't access any cookies on your computer that were put there by anyone else and vice versa. However, if you are worried about cookies, you can configure your web browser to accept them, reject them, or ask you what you want to do for each one. Each web browser is different, so read your browser's "Help" to find out how to change this setting. You should note however, that many websites (including this one) will not work correctly if you configure your browser to reject cookies.
